Citizen participation in ensuring neighborhood security and crime prevention will not only reduce government costs, but will also lead to greater citizen interaction with neighborhood-based police. The critical issues facing the police, along with the need for changes in the general principles and methods of service (neighborhood-based police), changes in the tools and means of performing duties (technology), and changes in society's expectations of police performance (the need for professionalism and accountability), dictate new criteria for police analysis, planning, and decision-making. Along with changes in societies, organizations responsible for order and security have also undergone fundamental changes in philosophy, purpose, strategy, tactics, and structure over the centuries and since the initial development of these organizations. This issue is more important in the police force due to its greatest interaction with the public and other social institutions. In this article, we aim to examine the role of neighborhood-based police in crime prevention using a descriptive-analytical method.
