When discussing the "right to water" as a human right, it implies that all individuals should have access to sufficient, safe drinking water without discrimination. This concept is measured by factors such as quantity, quality, accessibility, and the absence of discrimination. The "right to water," as one of the fundamental human rights, is not only related to meeting the basic needs of humans but is also linked to environmental preservation and sustainable development. In Iran, the provision and preservation of the right to water face challenges due to various issues such as water scarcity, climate change, and ineffective management policies. This article examines the status of the "right to water" in Iran and compares it with international principles and practices. It will particularly emphasize the necessity of adhering to international documents such as human rights conventions and sustainable development goals to improve water resource management and ensure equitable access to water. The findings indicate that there is a lack of alignment with international practices within our normative system, and the concept of the "right to water" has not been established within our legal framework. Our normative rules are currently limited to the phase of "water rights," which poses significant future risks for the country.
