This research, titled "A Comparative Analysis of the Status of Good Spousal Relations (Ḥusn-i Muʿāsharat) in Iranian Law and Ḥanafī Jurisprudence with Reference to the Opinions of the Commander of the Faithful, ʿAlī (a.s.)," employs a descriptive-analytical method to examine the concept of good spousal relations as one of the most key non-financial duties of spouses. The findings indicate that in Iranian law, good spousal relations are considered a mandatory duty with legal guarantees, whereas in Ḥanafī jurisprudence, this concept is predominantly viewed as a recommended and ethical matter. Studying the practical conduct (Sīrah) of the Commander of the Faithful, ʿAlī (a.s.), as a tangible model of good relations, reveals numerous manifestations of this concept across various dimensions: participation in household affairs, equitable division of responsibilities, meticulous observance of behavioral justice in polygynous relationships, and attention to fostering joy within the family through gift-giving. Ultimately, this study presents a comprehensive model of good spousal relations based on the ʿAlid (علوی) conduct, which can serve as a foundation for redefining this concept within a dynamic framework—a model where rights and ethics work in tandem to strengthen the institution of the family and enhance the human dignity of spouses. The outcome of this research can be utilized as a policy suggestion for legislators and a practical guide for young couples in both Shīʿa and Sunni societies.
