The prosperous reintegration of formerly incarcerated individuals into society is a complex and multidimensional process, fundamentally shaped by the principles of restorative justice. This approach extends beyond the boundaries of criminal law, encompassing insights from criminology, sociology, and psychology. It aims not only to rehabilitate offenders but also to facilitate their return to a socially constructive life while significantly reducing the risk of recidivism.
Nonetheless, the presence of psychological disorders, social stigmatization, and economic disadvantages often acts as a barrier to effective reintegration, thereby undermining the goals of restorative justice and increasing the likelihood of reoffending. Addressing these challenges is therefore essential for the success of reintegration policies.
This descriptive-analytical study investigates the following critical questions: How is restorative justice defined? What specific strategies are necessary to enable the successful reentry of prisoners into society? Who are the key stakeholders responsible for implementing these strategies? Based on a comprehensive review of documentary and library sources, the findings suggest that restorative justice represents a progressive shift in penal policy, emphasizing offender empowerment and community-based support. Achieving meaningful reintegration requires the coordinated efforts of families, local communities, and governmental institutions through psychological, social, and economic interventions.
