Envy is a moral vice that endangers spiritual health. In Islamic jurisprudence, physical and mental health of humans is considered one of the basic rights, and undesirable traits that cause harm to these rights are prohibited. Therefore, a scientific and jurisprudential study of jealousy and its effects on physical and mental health can pave the way for religious and social policies to control this moral vice. This article, with an analytical approach in previous medical books and utilizing jurisprudential, hadith, and psychological sources, has sought to play an effective role in promoting the mental and physical health of society. The findings of the study after a restorative study of the narrations indicating the effect of envy on the mind and body in ancient and modern medicine at three levels of description, analysis, and explanation show that the predecessors have addressed this discussion in various ways, some explain the relationship between envy and physical illness, some describe medicines to treat envy, and jurists have also discussed the rulings on envy in specific chapters, such as observing justice and showing compassion among children to prevent envy or the lifting of the ruling in the hadith of removal due to envy. The results of the study show that although jurists have not considered envy in itself to be a guarantee or a crime, if it leads to destructive behaviors (such as spreading lies, slander, or financial and reputational damage), it will be pursued within the framework of jurisprudential and legal guarantees, and in jurisprudential books, restorative strategies have been presented, such as recognizing envy as a disease, strengthening faith and belief, and gradually abandoning this vice.
